Al-Azhar Restaurant @ Cheong Chin Nam Rd :)

On Thursday (12th June), we decided to eat at Al-Azhar for lunch! :) Al-Azhar is a Thai-Muslim stall that has a broad range of food including Indian, Thai and even Western cuisine. I've heard from my seniors about Al-Ameen (their competitor), but after reading some reviews online, i decided to try Al-Azhar instead. From other reviews online, we've read that their naan and their chicken masala is the best! :)

Even though the weather was killer hot, the place was well ventilated and cool. :) there's also a designated smoking area for smokers.

Milo Dinosaur ($2.50) - and Mango Lassi ($3.50) -
Enny: An ordinary cup of Milo with the addition of Milo powder on top. It doesn't taste the same like the Milo drinks back in KL, lacking the 'thickness' of Milo flavour.

Sheep: I enjoyed my Mango Lassi, really thick and creamy :)

Mozzarella Cheese Prata served with Fish Curry  - ($2.80)
Sheep: I ordered a Mozzarella Cheese prata and was delighted to find that they were very generous with the cheese filling. :) some prata stalls only have cheese in the centre of the prata, but this prata had cheese at every corner! :) the mozzarella cheese is also a different take on your classic Cheese prata and its a must try! :)

Enny: Not your ordinary cheese prata ! Definitely worth a try ! Yummy !

Fried Ice Cream (assorted) -($6)
Sheep: We got chocolate and strawberry flavoured ice cream inside this bread-like "shell". Overall, it tasted pretty average. They could have served this at the end of our entire meal (we got it first) as i usually take my "desserts" last. By the time we were finished with all the other food, the ice cream had melted.

Enny: Just your normal ice cream with bread but fried. Messy to eat and is relatively normal.

Garlic Naan -($2.50)
Sheep: The naan had visible amounts of garlic but i could not taste much of it. However, it was still fluffy and delicious and a good accompaniment to the Butter Chicken Masala. I also find that it is pretty rare to find naan in Singapore so this is a place where you can get your naan fix! :)

Enny: With fluffy naan with curry, nothing goes wrong. But the naan does not have that garlic flavour to it and is quite bland if you're looking for some 'garlic power' to it x;

Tandoori Prata -($2)

Sheep: I personally didn't really like this as it had a weird taste to me.

Enny: Loved the tandoori prata ! It's something different from what I get back in KL. :D

Butter Chicken Masala - ($6)

Sheep: The gravy is extremely rich, smooth and creamy and the chicken was so tender! The bowl may look small but it was sufficient for the both of us (just for this meal perhaps ;)). :) this was the highlight of the meal for me as it is also my first time eating masala. Although it looks pretty red, it is only mildly spicy. Goes really good with naan :)

Enny: Creamy masala that isn't spicy at all (for me) with yummy tender chicken. One word: Heavenly !

Sheep's Verdict:
Mango Lassi: 2.5/5
Fried Ice Cream: 2/5
Mozzarella Cheese Prata: 3/5
Garlic Naan: 3/5
Tandoori Prata: 2/5
Butter Chicken Masala: 4/5

I would come back again for the prata, naan and chicken masala during my lunch time. I think i'm now a loyal fan of their Chicken Masala! :) i would also like to try their Power Satay, which at that time was unavailable till 4pm. ):

Enny's Verdict:
Milo Dinosaur: 2/5
Fried Ice Cream: 1/5
Mozzarella Cheese Prata: 3/5
Garlic Naan: 1.5/5
Tandoori Prata: 3/5
Butter Chicken Masala: 4/5

Ambiance: 5/10
Food: 8/10
Price: 7/10
Service: 7/10

Would definitely head back just to try the satay and have more masala :P
